There she is - - - the Devil's Playground, No-Man's Land, the DZ . . .. Addison Park. This is where I run - - this is the place of my transformation - - - -this is my Philadelphia Museum of Art
In Addison Park - - I am Rocky Balboa
W3D2 is complete. This morning dawned brilliant & beautiful. Physically everything checked out . . . .did my pre-run workout ritual of fish oil capsules, garlic pills, vitamins and Ginko Biloba. Wash it all down with 16 ounces of water. The topper is a nice big banana. In thirty minutes I will be ready to rock - - Decided to put in an extra 5 minute warm up lap around the neighborhood before entering the park. Like a UFC fighter prepping to enter the cage - - I took these last few minutes to "nut-up".
My headphones slid into place. Ullrey's well known intro music began pulsating in my ears . . . .My God, Ullrey was in rare form this morning - -deep and rich tones . . . Orson Wells could only dream to possess the oratory presence of Bob Ullrey - -Ullrey is my C25K Phlegyas, three times a week, escorting me across my river Styx of Fatness, into the land of Intervals; and as Zeus swore oaths upon the Styx, so do I swear an oath upon Addison Park . .
"I shall finish this run!!!"
In those few warm-up minutes, the mental battle begins, and like Gandalf facing down the Balrog - so do I face down, and PUNK OUT, my hesitation . . . IT IS ON BEEYATCH!!!!!!
The workout went great. The intervals flew by - - up until this last week, when Ullrey gets me prepped for that first run of the workout, and he calls out "Ready" that first "running" step has always been met with a tinge of tighness, a tweek maybe, in my left knee when my heel strikes on that outstretch; and I then wobble my way on an unsteady first few steps - -then getting into rhythm. By the end of the first running interval all of the tightness, popping and resituating of joints has taken place and I get in the groove. Not this past week - - something has changed - -when Ullrey gives me my Charge!!!!! I am lubed and ready to go (uughhhh, please no visual images). I fire off and I am gone . . .true, it is a blistering 5 to 6 mph, but kinetics law will tell you that getting a Bull Elephant from zero to 5 mph takes raw manly strength, baby.
While running I noticed this cloud and for the next 25 minutes circled below it - - choreographed in my dance with the Devil. So I took a picture of it - - no gag, just a pretty sky and a cool cloud
My foes were defeated again - - Laziness, Apathy, Empty Calories . . .lay strewn on the battlefield Addison when I was through. To add insult to injury, I continued through my last 3 minute interval, and despite Ullrey's coaxing, carried forth and ran through the entire 5 minute "cool-down" An 8 minute interval during Week 3.
I am the freakin man!
